What is Melamine Board

Because Melamine boards are so versatile, resistant to staining, and relatively cheap, you can actually use Melamine boards like tiles. To make the particleboard more appealing to consumers as a piece of furniture, the melamine board is used as a covering or veneer. Melamine laminate is a hard resin that is typically used as an overlay on building materials such as MDF or plywood. Melamine is a hard resin used to coat the base such as particleboard, MDF, or plywood.

Two commonly used construction materials used in a lot of new builds are particle board and melamine. The last commonality particle board and melamine have is that they are not the strongest building materials. One of the most common questions we receive here at Cabinets Quick is the question about the differences between particle board and plywood, and whether plywood is actually better than melamine, which is a type of particle board.

Both materials, plywood and melamine, are made of real wood, what makes the difference is the glues holding it together. Melamine is a form of plastic though with this being said, Melamine is commonly formed in boards and used instead of plywood and other types of engineered wood. Melamine is a type of organic material which is routinely mixed with formaldehyde, and which may ultimately be manufactured as melamine boards. When Melamine boards are manufactured, they are created by molding the melamine/formaldehyde combination into a strong sheet of plastic. Melamine boards can also be used as decorative wall coverings, instead of tiles or other materials.

Melamine furniture is constructed of a manufactured-wood base, such as medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or plywood, which has been covered with a laminated sheet of melamine. Melamine facing boards, sometimes Melamine board, are a versatile board type that has a variety of applications and uses, ranging from bedroom furniture such as dressers to kitchen cabinets.

Melamine faced boards require simple scrubbing to stay dry and dust-free, making it one of the best materials for using in high-traffic areas such as hotels and bank rooms. Unlike wood and plywood units, melamine boards do not require any treatments or multiple coats of finishing to keep them resistant to water, or to make them smooth by sanding. More often than not, the boards are actually not 100% melamine, but are made from materials such as particleboard, and then coated with a thin layer of melamine.

The fact that Melamine boards are resistant to staining makes them a perfect product for whiteboard production. Melamine has become a popular construction material because the melamine gives otherwise poor-quality materials a beautiful, long-lasting surface. Melamine is an organic compound often combined with formaldehyde to create Melamine Resin, a synthetic polymer which is fire-resistant and heat-resistant.

Under high heat and pressure, saturated laminated parts of craft melamine and card are converted to laminated sheets of melamine. The different colored or textured paper is immersed into a resin adhesive made from melamine, and is subsequently dried at certain levels to set, paved onto a chipboard, damp-resistant plywood, jointing boards, multiple-layered boards, or another solid fibreboard, after which it is pressed hot, producing the laminated sheet.
